Important information about the information provided on this website, how to use it and it’s intended purpose.
Because it has been difficult in the past to access up to date information about Autism in MK. The project strives to provide an evolving, sustainable and interactive website.
Initial funding for the project has come from the Community Mental Health Services Transformation Board MK, facilitated by Community Action MK. The project is led by Jane Lynds from Talent Unlimited MK. The current funding covers at least the first two years of operation.
Talk Back and Community Action MK have been integral in the inception and development of MK Autism. We aim to develop positive relationships with any sympathetic groups and organisations going forward.
Following agreement on funding, Jane Lynds engaged a web design company to build the site (Yellow Moose). Groups of Autistic people and their carers met to discuss what type of information they felt was needed on the webpage. An agreed list of topics was formulated. Jane Lynds then worked very closely with Yellow Moose to construct the body of the website. A small steering group of mostly Autistic members was formed to consult on, and get actively involved in the construction of the site. This group going forward will monitor and steer the project.
The launch is just the beginning! The site asks for feedback and the steering group will adapt the site to take account of this, removing and adding content as required.
Going forward we have plans to record short videos of personal experiences linked to the site via You Tube, we may develop a blog and other facilities, but we will always keep to our initial vision of reliable and current information for MK steered by autistic people and their loved ones. Looking further into the future the steering group will investigate becoming a standalone not for profit organisation with the aim of attracting further funding / sponsorship and to ensure the project continues as long as it is needed.
