Welcome to a new blog on our site.
This is the first blog we have started and this will cover the research that we are doing on how Autism is defined by UK Law, starting with English law.
The aim is to produce an index of where ‘Autism’, ‘Autistic’, and related words appear in legislation. Later we plan to link these key words to provide readers with a summary of the key facts and how an autistic person is affected by the legislation.
This information will be grouped into key stages that an autistic person will encounter in their life, such as education and work, and will identify the type of law that is being covered. The different types of law will be covered in a later blog.
This will not be a quick exercise and may take a long time to complete.
The aim of this research is to share this information with others at no cost.
This is not legal advice and has not been prepared by a lawyer.
There are many charities who have already completed their own research into this area and who have published very good summaries of the legislation and how it can affect an autistic person. These will be included in this blog as we cover each area of the law; this blog does not intend to recreate the work already completed nor aim to produce a more comprehensive summary. This research will be shared with charities who are mentioned in the blog.
There are also several good books on autism and the law as well as lived experiences which have highlighted particular areas of how autism has been handled by the law and these will be included in the blog.
To fully understand this subject the author has included details about Autism and how these can affect the understanding of the law.
The information in this blog will be based on fact and not on any opinions of the author or others involved with this site.
If you have any questions or comments, please contact us through the ‘Contact’ button on the home page and we will respond to you. The author is prepared to admit to any errors or to include any omissions in later posts.
Thank you for taking the time to read this. We hope that you will gain from this blog.
